[Dot ] [Dot] A computerized pump, no bigger than a bar of Ivory soap, is transforming lives. Day by day, hour by hour, it is releasing a carefully calculated amount of hormone into the bloodstreams of infertile women. Month by month, these women are beginning to ovulate. Month by month they are beginning to conceive.

The women are patients of the Reproductive Endocrine Unit of Vincent Memorial Hospital. They are participating in a clincal research program funded by the National Institute of Health that may extend the promise of parenthood to a significant number of infertile couples.
