Not long ago, R2D2-like blips and beeps were as close as microcomputers came to emulating human speech. Not any more. With the addition of a speech synthesizer, a microcomputer can talk to your students.
A talking computer offers more than novelty in the classroom. It can read instructions to prereaders or demonstrate appropriate pronunciation for the bilingual or foreign language student mastering the inflections of a new tongue.
